![]() I’ve no doubt that intensity will be here once you really have to push the limits.Īlso, I really dig WRC9’s cockpit view. I’m also going to shelve any suggestions that this is “easy” until I progress further. A good stage of WRC9 still makes me feel like I haven’t blinked for 5-10 minutes, which is always a good sign for a rally game for me. It’s more forgiving for sure and seems easier to handle than DR, but still has its challenges. On the track I find WRC9 lacked some of the immediate intensity that I enjoy about DR. I certainly prefer the career mode, which looks pretty involved even in the early stages, and outside of the F1 games seems to deliver a quality of career that racing games seldom provide these days. I’ve also had to overcome some indecision over whether I prefer this or Dirt Rally 2.0, but am now starting to enjoy this for what it is. This was an unfortunate casualty of Demon’s Souls completely dominating the PS5 launch for me. Picked this up a couple of weeks ago but I’m only now really digging into it properly. but that definitely flies in the face of a lot of gamers (and, they also didn't nail this as the progression in difficulty can be erratic and steep!) literally, they dont want you in first in every stage of every rally of every season. i like this because its aggressively pushing you to get better by forcing you to race at, or just above, your level. when you get to a season that is too hard for your skill level, you struggle, then next season you are bumped down. the difficulty starts low, and each "season" it ramps up. my issue is, and i've definitely seen it with me despite my paragraph above, is its just too tempting to have the difficulty lower and get all those 1st place finishes.ĭr2.0 does it different. wrc9 lets you set your own difficulty, which of course is nice and preferred by some. ![]() I think these games are at their best when this challenge is present, but they both aim for this in different ways. only pushing harder when i'm just feeling it, absolutely NEED to make up time, or have a stage i feel confident on. with this mind set, i'm pushing about 85% on any given stage for a clean run with few minor mistakes, rather than always pushing the limit for the best time i can set but with a much larger risk. if i'm having a tough rally, i'll aim for whatever points i can scramble and hope for better next rally. the goal is always 1st of course, but being that one stage doesn't mean much when you have 5 more to complete for a single rally - and there are 12 rallys for a season! - means that if i have a slower run i know i can make up for it elsewhere. I approach these games, even in the season/career mode, unlike most other racers.
